Morning beauty fiends!
Today’s match reminds me of that awful reality show ‘Supersize vs Superskinny’ (coz you know, what eating disorder sufferers need is CAMERAS) as these star-crossed lovers also boast opposing body types. Together, they’re a perfect match for defined eyes!
I’m a natural redhead, so my lashes are naturally completely white. It’s awesome.* Going half your life without visible eyebrows will teach you a thing or two about eye defining techniques, let me tell you. My motto with make-up is to fake it ’til you make it, and to do that we’re going to need products…
I started using NYX when I saw that they sponsored Ru Paul’s Drag Race. No lies, if you’re into drag, I’m into you! NYX won my heart when I found out that they’re 100% cruelty-free (as in no finished product or any of their ingredients are tested on animals). So we all get to drag up and no bunnies are hurt. Win.
NYX Super Skinny Marker (R129 from Clicks) is a felt tip marker-style liquid liner. It has a fine point that really helps to draw the perfect flick. I would recommend this eyeliner for those of you who struggle to get a straight line; this is probably the easiest applicator I’ve ever used. Staying power could be better…if you rock a cat-eye every work day like I do, I’d recommend splurging on The Curve instead. Review to come on that one! Super Skinny is going to help you get your application down, and is amazing for filling in your lashline (check out our glossary if you’re confuzzled.)
I think Maybelline is the brand to beat in the mascara category. I’ve never used a Maybelline mascara that didn’t work for me, even though I do enjoy some more than others. The Colossal Volum’ Express Smoky Eyes (R109.95 from DisChem) is definitely my favourite, and I always spot that bright yellow tube in friends’ make-up bags! What makes the Smoky Eyes version different from the usual Colossal Volum’ (why is the ‘e’ missing?!) is the addition of black kohl, which gives your lashes a super-dark matte look. The brush helps to lengthen your lashes without adding clumps, so you won’t have to comb them after application.
All in all this combo is a must if you want to define those eyes. Use them to create a subtle daytime look, or turn up the drama and do a Priscilla! And remember, pics or it didn’t happen. Tweet them to us @smudgedbeauty!
