Fun in the sun with Piz Buin

Hello readers,

We’ve got some products from Piz Buin ready to be reviewed on the blog today. They kindly sent us 4 of their products just in time for the summer sun and we’ve each viewed a different one. We’re very happy that summer has finally arrived in Cape Town and the time for beach, cocktails and fun summer nights are here.

Piz Buin Tan Accelerating Oil Spray

I love a good tanning oil. There. I said it. I’ve been using the Nivea Deep Tanning Oil for ages and I really love it. Even though my love for this Nivea Tanning Oil runs deep, I’m still keeping my options open because, you know, I’m keeping my options open. The first thing I did when I got my hands on this tanning oil was smell it. I have a thing about the smell of sunscreen, I’m not a big fan of it. The Nivea Oil has quite a strong smell, I don’t mind it that much because its SO moisturising that I overlook it. This oil smells amazing. Its like coconuts and fun summer nights in a bottle. Don’t ask. I fell a little bit in love with this, some may say it was love at first sight. It smells amazing, it goes on perfectly AND (bonus for my mother and Michelle who worry about the SPF of my Nivea Oil – which is only SPF 5) this Piz Buin Tanning Oil is SPF 15 – WINNING. Also, it’s called Tan Accelerating Oil. MORE WINNING. – Jess

Piz Buin Allergy Spray

This product is pretty much a standard UVB protection sun spray except it’s incredibly high with a factor 50+ that includes calmanelle and is made especially for sensitive skin. Calmanelle as I discovered is an antioxidant that increases your skin’s tolerence to the sun’s UV rays. So it’s really really great fair skinned folks and for those who are going to be exposed to the sun for a long period/couple of days straight. It’s a spray and not a cream so comes out as a thin liquid and absorbs almost immediately leaving no sticky residue. Actually I can’t feel any residue at all which is a major plus for me because I hate getting sunblock on my costume and clothes. The smell is minimal to avoid irritation with sensitive skin but still has a slight Piz Buin coconut waxy smell. Great product, I would definitely consider repurchasing! – Beth

Piz Buin Wet Skin Spray

This cool number is unique because it can be applied to wet skin and dry skin. That fact drew me immediately to the product because I hate to re-apply suncream after a swim and usually lie in the sun to dry off and warm up. This is stupid, as the water has now washed away most of my sun lotion and I’m in the sun with minimal protection. So this spray has great potential for me! It’s an oil yet extremely light weight and didn’t leave my skin feeling greasy. It claims to be very water resistant and wont leave any white marks. It did have a very strong smell of alcohol when I first applied so I imagine it has it as an ingredient (I checked, it’s first ingredient is alcohol denat), so don’t spray onto any problematic skin – Beth

Piz Buin Sun Lipstick

Not a lipstick but in fact a lip balm, it has SPF 20 as well as aloe vera. The texture is pretty creamy and hydrating too but has a slight waxy texture to keep it water resistant. This makes sense as it’s designed for outdoor use so I wouldn’t recommend it for everyday in the office but for the beach I think it’s perfect. Has a great vanillary sent but nothing too heavy  – Beth
