Morning you awesome people you!
So Stila hit it out of the freaking park with their 2013 holiday collection. I wanted every single thing (Beth has the Masterclass Series Palettes and I’m well jeal) and I think I’m still going to buy the amazingly priced Smudge Stick set. I was lucky enough to receive the Best of Kitten set (thanks Mom!) for Christmas and have really been enjoying it.
I’ve always been into the whole matte skin, cat liner and red lips look. And don’t get me wrong, that shiz is my jam. But once in a while it’s nice to play around with the whole natural-dewy-dimensional-face thing. Enter Kitten, the cult rose gold shade by Stila that beauty bloggers obsess over. Never one to ignore a beauty bandwagon, I was eager to see what all the fuss was about.
The set contains a make-up bag, eyeshadow in Kitten, Luminizer in Kitten, Lip Glaze in Kitten, and Smudge Stick in Angel Fish.
All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer in Kitten (I don’t think it’s available separately in SA, it’s $20 online)
I wasn’t expecting to love this as much as I do! I thought it would be too hectic on my pale skin, but it actually suits it perfectly. I can see why Kitten’s known as a universally flattering shade.
Initially I used it like I do my other highlighters, dotting it on over foundation. Beth then gave me a great tip, which is to either mix it with my foundation or wear it over my entire face under foundation. I thought it might make me look like a crappy vampire (Anne Rice fo’ life yo) but it actually really adds dimension to my face and helps to hide any small imperfections. If you worry about your skin looking dull, I’d really recommend you try a luminizer under foundation. Sparkle Motion and all that. This is a definite winner!
Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Angel Fish (R200 if bought separately)
Guys. This formula. I’d swatched it before and that’s what initially sold me on the set. It does not budge! I’ve had this on my hand and used hand sanitiser, hand cream, soap, etc and it just doesn’t move! I don’t know what sorcery this is, but I like it. The colour is also beautiful and great for lining your waterline and using in the inner corners of your eyes (both of these tricks will open up your eyes and make them look bigger). I’ve obviously already broken the wind-up mechanism thingy, so just be gentle if you do end up getting it.
Eyeshadow in Kitten (R175 if bought separately)
I was so excited to finally get my hands on this famous product. As expected, the formula is super blendable and nicely pigmented. It’s a really lovely eyeshadow to work with, but a little goes a long way. I was initially looking a little Jerseylicious with my frosted lids, so heed my warning. Or don’t…after watching Don Jon I wouldn’t mind getting my Jersey on. Anyhoo this is a great eyeshadow, a little sparkly for everyday, but great for brightening up your inner eye corners and very nice as a base for a bronze/brown smokey eye. If you love neutrals, this is your soulmate.
Lip Glaze in Kitten (R174.95 if bought separately)
This is the only product that I wouldn’t be tempted to purchase in the first place. I’m not a big lipgloss fan and I find the Stila lip glazes very sticky (although I think that’s why they stay on so well). This once is a bronzey colour with gold flecks on shimmer, and it’s just not me at all. Having said that, it’s down to personal preference and you might rock it like it ain’t no thang. It’s just not for me.
So all in all, I’m very happy with this set. I think it’s amazing value for money, separately everything would cost about R750 and you can get it from Rubybox for R259.95! That, my friends, is a steal. If you love shimmer and neutrals, you won’t regret buying this.
Did you make any great holiday purchases? Are you a Kitten devotee? Should I buy the Smudge Stick set? Justify my bad spending habits please!
Have a great week my liefs,
PS. I would just like you all to know that I googled ‘sexy cat gif’ for this post. You can’t get that time back. I enjoyed this one tho…
