Here’s my first empties post! I don’t know why but I love these ones, it’s like a review for lots of things and that’s exciting to me (what a life!). If you don’t know what an empties post is stick around and I’ll be reviewing the things that I’ve finished up in the last few months and letting you know what I liked or didn’t.
Garnier BB Cream (light)
Let’s start with this guy. It’s great for the price and I dig the formula and all the jazz. Check out our post on BB creams over here if you want to know more about this product and other BB creams. I go through a new BB cream about every 3/4 months but that’s because I don’t use it everyday.
I bought this in October last year so it’s taken me +-7 months to use which I think is awesome that I only had to buy a new cleanser twice a year. I do have two other ones that I use irregularly so maybe that’s why I only have to buy every 6 months or so. It’s a gel cleanser, so excellent for dry skin and the only cleanser I’ve used that’s yet to dry me out. I’ve repurchased about 4 times already. I have a combination skin type now meaning I’m oily just in my T-zone, so this was recommended to me after a skin mapping session a few years ago and I’ve really liked how gentle it is. I tried a foam from their classic range a few weeks ago and it dried me out severely so I’m happy with a gel for now. None of that tight skin shit. I use my sebuwash in the shower and moisturize straight after I get out. Will repurchase this guy or the classic cleansing milk but a milk always leaves residual and this one really does it’s job effectively for me. It’s about R245.
Environ Classic Night
If you use Environ you know you have to get your skin sussed before they recommend any of their products. I thinks that’s pretty responsible of them and you also don’t waste money on a range that’s not suitable for you. I started on debut about 1.5 years ago and have now worked my way up to Rich status on the Classic range. You have to work your way through the range because it contains retinol and if you start with a medium volume as opposed to a small then you might react. Having said this, I considered myself to have sensitive skin, and I have never had a reaction to any of the retinol in any of the classic range moisturizing products. If I did I probably would go find a range that contained little/no retinol. Retinol is the name for the vitamin A molecule. It’s one of the best ingredients in skincare. If you want to know more, have a read about it on Beautypedia here. My classic night cost R250. I also bought it in October. At the present moment my skincare routine consists of 1 moisturiser and 1 cleanser and a sample of a serum 3 times a week. Nothing complicated.
EarthSap Shampoo (Pomegranate & Soy)
I have bought this guy about 5/6 times before. I originally bought it to use with gentian violet for the first time and have been using it with that stuff ever since. I plan on writing a more in-depth review on gentian violet sometime next month, watch out for that one if you don’t know about it. I decided it was best to use as natural a shampoo as possible when mixing foreign ingredients with it so I picked this one up a few years ago and I’m still loving it. Earthsap:
- Contains no synthetic fragrances, artificial preservatives, phosphates, petrochemicals, chlorine or bleaches used.
- Makes sure no animals were harmed to make this product.
- Is 100% biodegradable, eco-friendly and non-toxic.
And it’s locally made so it’s a winner in my books. Depending on where you buy it it can cost R35-R45.
Schwarzkopf Gliss Ultimate Repair Spray
This product came with the entire range of Schwarzkopf Gliss products. I dislike all of them :( I also dislike saying this because I won the range and I don’t want to seem ungrateful but it’s really nothing amazing. I am grateful though for the R1000 gift card from sorbet that came with the prize though! Thanks Schwarzkopf! This particular spray is a leave-in formula and has quite a bit of oil in it but does nothing to nourish the hair. I can spray it on and brush it in and 5 minutes later it feels like nothing was put on my hair. No matter how much I douse my head with this. I say save up for a salon elixir/oil that will last a lot longer and one that you will see results with or try out coconut oil if you’re on a budget.
Sample of REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask
I forgot to add this product into the mix but I want to talk about it because it’s something I thought I’d be burning through by now! A potent bio active peel mask they say. Alas that is not the case! I was so certain I was going to love this product because I hear great things about it but it is a kak one for me and I’m so glad I got a sample before buying. Bullet dodged! After my first use I googled the product on makeupalley and every second comment or so had a response like “yeah it doesn’t do much for me”. I thought I’d be the ones raving about it but I guess my skin isn’t blown away by this product. I see no difference whatsoever in texture, brightness, softness, NADA! And I got 5 uses from the sample and didn’t have any good results any of the times I used it :( Boo but I’m glad I saved some $!
Bye for now,
