Best of 2014: Skincare

Hello you. Happy New Year!

We’ve decided to look back on 2014 and our favourite products of the year. Because there are so many of these, we’re going to go through them in categories. Firstly; skincare.

2014 brought with it some amazing new skincare products, a few old favourites popped up again and some others that made a lot of noise but didn’t deliver on their claims. Here are our favourites:

Jess

My  favourite skin care product of 2014 was super easy to pick out. This product amazed me last year, and I won’t be spending this new year without this baby.

Clinique Moisture Surge Intense

cliniqueI had a slight issue with dry skin last year, my skin just wasn’t feeling as hydrated as it usually does. I tried a few moisturisers and nothing was giving me that perfectly hydrated feeling. I got my hands on this baby and my skin was over the moon! This product really lives up to it’s name Moisture Surge and it left my skin feeling hydrated all day. This is definitely a winner in my eyes.

Jodi

This was a tough one because this year The Body Shop has really brought their A-game. For my skincare favourites I couldn’t pick just one.  My first choice has been the Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil. It’s not harsh in any way and leaves my skin clean and soft without drying it out. I love the pump too because I don’t have to dip grubby paws into it at all.

For my second favourite (which I consider skincare because I primarily use it at night before bed) is my beloved Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm. I thought I’d lost this little beauty a few months back only and after pining for it for ages I was about to go pick up another when I was cleaning under my bed and found it lurking amongst the dog toys and cat hair. Sheer joy doesn’t come close to describing how excited I was. I have very chapped and dry lips most of the time and I personally love the feeling of waking up in the morning and still feeling the lip balm doing its thang. It’s the best lip balm I have ever used and lives up to the hype.

I like Environ. My skin likes Environ. It’s a done deal for me and I’ve been using their Rich Night moisturiser all year in 2014 and now into this one too. It contains all the good stuff, yet is pretty mild on my sensitive skin, which has been made even more sensitive since being on roaccutane. My skin always feels really healthy the next morning after using this product and I also have to mention how well priced it is for the quality!

Mich

I definitely have to agree with Jodi’s choices, I also use those two products and absolutely love them! But since I’ve tried tons of products this year, here are two more I recommend having a look at.

LUSH Catastrophe Cosmetic Face Mask

2754 Face masks are probably my favourite beauty product and this one is my holy grail. It contains blueberries, chamomile, calamine and almond oil to deep cleanse while soothing skin. It really helps get rid of any zits while keeping my sensitive skin nice and happy. A definite winner for me! (Plus if you give in 5 LUSH tubs, you get a fresh face mask for free!)

Sorbet Salon Skin Daily Skin Polish Powder

This new release is already a firm favourite. It’s an almost perfect dupe for the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant but around R600 cheaper! It’s a super gentle exfoliant containing salicylic acid and rice powder, and doesn’t irritate my skin like most granular exfoliators. Lovely stuff.

Let us know what gems you found in 2014!

Love,
